In memoriam for André-Noël Dardenne

In memoriam
Professor André-Noël Dardenne André-Noël Dardenne died on January 15, 2007 after struggling with great dignity a hard battle against cancer. He was born on December 24, 1944 in Charleroi. After his medical training at the Université Catholique de Louvain, he became a staff radiologist in the department of radiology of the St-Luc University Hospital under the leading of Professor Pierre Bodart. He devoted his professional career to the development of abdominal and urogenital radiology. In his clinical work, he used all imaging modalities, including conventional radiology, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and interventional radiology, but he was mainly interested in ultrasonography. He was one of the pioneers in Belgium of the use of this cross-sectional method in medical imaging. He trained generations of young radiologists to perform sonographic examinations and transmitted them his passion for seeing with sounds. He had a broad knowledge of uroradiology and was very active during the medical and surgical discussions in urology and nephrology.
Among other duties, he was president of the Association Belge d’Ultrasonologie Médicale, vice-president of the Federation of the Belgian Societies for Ultrasound Diagnosis and founding member of the Société d’Imagerie Génito-Urinaire.
André-Noël Dardenne had very good relationships with the patients and the staff and had a lot of friends in the medical and paramedical communities.
Our thoughts go to his children Valérie, Nicolas and Jenny and to his grandchildren Romane, Simon, Florent, Clara, Lou and Anna.
