History
La section de Droit canonique est l'héritière de l'ancienne Faculté des Décrets, érigée en 1425. Celle-ci forma avec la Faculté des Lois un Collegium utriusque juris Studii lovaniensis jusqu'à la fin de l'ancien régime. Chacune gardait le droit de recouvrer son autonomie. À la restauration de l'Université en 1834, l'enseignement du droit canonique fut rattaché à la Faculté de théologie ; en 1934, il fut érigé par l'autorité ecclésiastique en Faculté autonome, tout en gardant un contact privilégié avec la Faculté de théologie, entre autres par le fait d'un conseil facultaire commun. Lors de la réorganisation de 1983, il a été décidé que la Faculté de droit canonique et la Faculté de théologie formeraient la "Faculté de théologie".
